Israeli Government Delays Deportation Of Palestinian Patients To Gaza

Patients from Gaza wait to be transported by bus to the Israeli-occupied West Bank

The Israeli government has decided not to send approximately two dozen Palestinian patients in East Jerusalem and Tel Aviv hospitals back to Gaza until a ruling is made by Israel's Supreme Court. This decision comes after a complaint was filed by a group of Israeli human rights organizations on behalf of some of the patients, seeking to prevent their deportation. The state attorney’s office has requested 30 days to respond to the complaint.

Israel's Supreme Court issued a temporary injunction on Wednesday to halt the transfer of the patients until the government provides its response. The government has agreed not to deport any of the patients back to Gaza, except for those who specifically request in writing, through their attorney, to return to the Gaza Strip.

The petition to the Supreme Court was prompted by a report highlighting the cases of some of the patients, which include mothers and their 6-month-old babies. The human rights groups are advocating for the patients' rights and are seeking legal protection to prevent their forced return to Gaza.
