Israeli Forces Raid Gaza Hospital, Leaving It Out Of Service

Palestinians inspect damages following an Israeli raid at Kamal Adwan hospital in the northern Gaza Strip

Following a raid by Israeli forces, the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza is now out of service, leaving some 75,000 Palestinians at risk. The hospital was severely damaged, and its wards were emptied of patients and doctors. The hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, was arrested during the raid on accusations of being a suspected Hamas operative.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the hospital is now empty of patients, including those in critical condition. Some critically ill patients were transferred to other hospitals, such as the Indonesian Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Due to recent airstrikes and limited supplies, Al Awda Hospital in northern Gaza is barely functioning. The healthcare system in the north is described as deteriorated, with limited resources and medical professionals.

The UN Human Rights Office highlighted the destruction of the healthcare system in Gaza, calling for independent investigations and accountability for violations of international humanitarian and human rights law.

Israeli forces claimed that the hospital was being used as a Hamas stronghold, leading to the detention of alleged terrorists in the area. The arrest of Dr. Abu Safiya sparked outrage among Palestinians and rights groups.

As aid struggles to reach the trapped population in northern Gaza, the situation is exacerbated by food shortages, lack of shelter, and medicine. The cold weather has led to tragic deaths, including that of a 20-day-old newborn.

Despite some aid deliveries, challenges remain in providing essential assistance to meet the basic needs of the population. The ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza demand urgent attention and support to prevent further suffering and loss of life.
