Residents of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza reported that Israeli military vehicles initiated an operation in the area on Monday afternoon, engaging in gunfire and artillery shelling. The operation continued into Tuesday, with Israeli forces surrounding three schools, including Mahdiyya Al-Shawwa, where hundreds of people had sought shelter.
According to sources, Israeli forces used loudspeakers to instruct individuals to vacate the schools. During the operation, dozens of men, including elderly and teenagers over 15 years old, were detained. The purpose and outcomes of the operation have been requested from the Israel Defense Forces by local residents.
Despite the destruction in the area, some residents like Abu Malek Shibat have chosen to remain in Beit Hanoun, even contemplating setting up a tent over the remains of their homes. Amani Naseer, who sought refuge in a school, expressed despair over the situation, stating that Israeli forces had devastated the area. She mentioned that her house had already been destroyed, but she managed to salvage some belongings from the rubble.
The operation concluded late on Tuesday, leaving residents grappling with the aftermath of the military intervention. The impact on the community and the reasons behind the operation remain subjects of concern and inquiry.
