Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has expressed support for a plan put forth by United States President Donald Trump that involves removing Palestinians from Gaza and taking control of the strip. In a video statement, Smotrich stated his intention to work towards eliminating the concept of a Palestinian state permanently.
Following a recent ceasefire agreement with Hamas, Smotrich had initially threatened to leave Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. However, he decided to remain in his position after reportedly receiving assurances that Israel would resume military action in Gaza.
Emphasizing his involvement in shaping future strategies, Smotrich indicated that the recent developments were just the beginning of a broader campaign. As a settler himself, he leads Religious Zionism, a far-right party advocating for Jewish settlements in Gaza.
Referring to President Trump’s plan as a fitting response to a past incident, Smotrich suggested that those responsible for a previous attack on Israeli territory would face permanent consequences in terms of land ownership.
