Israeli Far-Right Party Members Resign Over Ceasefire Deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, convened his security Cabinet to vote on a ceasefire deal after confirming an agreement

Members of the Israeli far-right Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party have announced their intention to resign from their government positions in response to the ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas. The party expressed strong condemnation for what they described as a 'reckless agreement' that would result in the release of 'hundreds of murderers with the blood of men, women, and children on their hands,' referring to the Palestinian prisoners set to be freed from Israeli prisons.

In addition to their concerns about the release of prisoners, the party argued that the deal would undermine the achievements of the Israeli military during the conflict. The Ministers of National Security, Development of the Periphery, and Heritage from Otzma Yehudit are set to submit their resignation letters on Sunday morning, according to the party's statement.

Despite the resignations, Otzma Yehudit's departure from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition is not expected to lead to the government's collapse. Netanyahu has emphasized that the agreement with Hamas includes Israel's right to resume military action if Hamas fails to comply with the terms.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir responded to Netanyahu's remarks by stating that since Hamas has not been defeated, a return to conflict may be necessary. He emphasized that any decision to engage in further military action should not be contingent on Hamas's actions.
