An Israeli drone targeted a car in the southern Lebanese port city of Sidon on Monday, resulting in the death of one person. This incident marks the deepest strike in the country since a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel came into effect in late November, as reported by Lebanon’s state news agency.
The identity of the victim has not been immediately confirmed. The Israeli military has not yet provided a statement regarding the attack. The strike occurred near a Lebanese army checkpoint and Sidon’s municipal sports stadium, with online footage showing the car engulfed in flames.

This attack comes just a day before the deadline for Israel’s complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon under the ceasefire agreement that concluded the 14-month war between Israel and Hezbollah. Originally set for late January, the withdrawal deadline was extended to February 18 under pressure from Israel. It remains uncertain whether Israeli troops will fully withdraw by Tuesday.
Since the ceasefire, Israel has continued to conduct airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, citing the targeting of military sites housing missiles and combat equipment. Both Israel and Lebanon have accused each other of violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
