Israeli defense officials have visited the army base in northern Israel that was targeted by a deadly Hezbollah attack, expressing their commitment to investigating how the drone managed to evade Israel's air defenses. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant toured the base on Monday morning, describing the attack as a 'difficult event with painful outcomes.'
During the attack, which occurred at dinner time, four soldiers were killed and over 60 others were injured, with eight in serious condition. The base, belonging to the elite Golani Brigade, was hit by the drone, causing significant damage.
Gallant highlighted the threat posed by drones and emphasized that the government is actively working on developing solutions to address this growing security concern.
This incident marked the second time in just two days that Hezbollah's drones were able to breach Israeli airspace. Prior to this attack, the Israeli military intercepted a drone fired from Lebanon, which damaged a nursing home in Herzliya, central Israel.
The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi, also visited the base to assess the situation. He emphasized the severity of the attack, stating, 'We are at war, and an attack on a training base on the home front is difficult, with painful consequences.'
The Israeli government is now focused on enhancing its defense capabilities to counter the evolving threats posed by drones and ensuring the safety of its military personnel and civilians.
