Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the importance of the next 60 days in determining the success of Israel's war objectives in the north. Speaking at a defense industry conference, Katz highlighted the need to evaluate if the goals set for the conflict have been achieved.
He specifically mentioned the aim of allowing residents of northern Israel to return to their homes, which have been affected by Hezbollah's ongoing rocket attacks. Over 60,000 Israelis have been displaced due to the violence, prompting Israel to expand its war goals to include the safe return of these individuals to their residences.
Katz commended the political leadership and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) for their strategic decisions and effective operations against Hezbollah. He noted that these actions have significantly weakened Hezbollah's capabilities and set back the organization for years.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli ground forces are required to withdraw from Lebanese territory within 60 days. Simultaneously, Hezbollah fighters are expected to retreat 40 kilometers from Israel's northern border during this period.
Furthermore, Katz highlighted the impact of the northern campaign on Hamas, expressing Israel's desire to facilitate a new prisoner swap deal and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. He emphasized the ethical importance of this goal, considering it a top priority for the nation.
