Israeli attacks kill dozens in Gaza after ceasefire deal with Hamas announced

THE Israeli military has continued its deadly assault on Gaza despite a ceasefire deal being reached with Hamas, according to reports.

Palestinian news agency Wafa reports that 25 people have been killed by Israeli strikes inside Gaza since dawn.

Meanwhile, medical sources have told Al Jazeera that at least 82 people have been killed.

This includes an attack on a house near the Engineers Union Building in Gaza City on Wednesday night, which killed at least 18 people.

The Palestinian Civil Defence also said it retrieved the bodies of 12 people from Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood.

While Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire deal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late Wednesday that final details were being worked out.

According to reports the proposed deal is expected to take effect on Sunday, January 19 and promises the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in phases, and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

It will also allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced in Gaza to return to what remains of their homes and allow the devastated territory access to badly needed humanitarian aid.

But there are fears within Gaza that Israeli attacks will intensify until the ceasefire fully takes effect.
