An Israeli attack at UNRWA’s Al-Jaouni school in al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 16 Palestinians and left 50 others injured, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the strip on Saturday.
According to a displaced man at the school, children were among the injured, highlighting the devastating impact on innocent lives. The man expressed his anguish, questioning the senseless harm caused to children who were simply playing at the school.
A video capturing the aftermath of the attack showed several injured children being rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Israeli military defended its actions, stating that militants were using structures in the school area as hideouts and operational bases to launch attacks against IDF troops in Gaza. The military claimed that the attack was a response to threats posed by these militants.
UNRWA Communication Director Juliette Touma emphasized the severity of the situation, revealing that half of UNRWA’s facilities in Gaza have been targeted since October 7. Tragically, over 500 individuals seeking refuge in these UNRWA facilities have lost their lives, with a significant number of casualties being women and children.
The ongoing violence in Gaza continues to take a heavy toll on civilians, with innocent lives being caught in the crossfire of conflict. The international community is urged to prioritize efforts towards achieving a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life and suffering in the region.
