On the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks, Gaza's north faced more Israeli strikes, further escalating the ongoing conflict that has left the enclave in ruins.
Reports from hospital officials confirmed that at least 10 people were killed in the Jabalya refugee camp due to an Israeli airstrike. Jabalya, which was targeted early on in Israel's response to Hamas' attacks a year ago, has been repeatedly struck during the war. Israel recently initiated a new ground operation in the area, citing signs of Hamas regrouping.
Israeli military authorities issued fresh evacuation orders to residents in both northern and southern Gaza as they intensified their offensive in the battered region. The United Nations estimates that the war has displaced 1.9 million people, leaving many feeling there is no safe haven.
Tragically, the conflict has resulted in over 41,000 fatalities, with more than a third being children. Additionally, close to 100,000 individuals have been wounded, and an unknown number remain trapped under rubble across Gaza, according to UN reports.
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has suffered a devastating loss, with over 220 team members losing their lives in the conflict, marking the highest death toll in the history of the United Nations.
Philippe Lazzarini, the chief of UNRWA, expressed deep concern over the dire situation in Gaza, stating that families continue to endure unimaginable suffering on a daily basis. Forced displacement, disease, hunger, and death have become a harsh reality for the 2 million people trapped in the besieged and war-torn enclave.
