Israel is making preparations to receive the remains of an undisclosed number of hostages from Gaza on Thursday, as confirmed by a reliable source. The identities of these hostages have not yet been disclosed to the public.
This development signifies the first transfer of deceased hostages since the ceasefire agreement with Hamas came into effect in January. Prior to this, the Israeli military had successfully recovered the bodies of several hostages in Gaza.
The return of the hostages' remains is occurring amidst an air of uncertainty surrounding the status of the ceasefire deal, despite the recent release of three hostages on Saturday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that discussions regarding the second phase of the agreement will take place with the political-security cabinet on Monday.
As per the terms outlined in the initial ceasefire and hostage release pact, the subsequent exchange is slated for February 22, during which three hostages are expected to be set free.
