The Israeli military has launched strikes against Hezbollah targets "deep inside Lebanese territory", according to official sources.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claim to have hit weapons caches and "terrorist infrastructure" in several areas, including Chabriha, Borj El Chmali, Beqaa, Kfarkela, Rab El Thalathine, Khiam and Tayr Harfa.
In response, Iran's foreign ministry has cautioned Israel against any further "adventure" in Lebanon.
The strikes follow a deadly attack on a football pitch in the Golan Heights, which Israeli authorities say killed 12 people, including children.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who cut short a visit to the United States upon hearing the news, warned that Hezbollah would "pay a heavy price" for the attack, adding that it would be acost "it has thus far not paid".
Foreign Minister Israel Katz told Channel 12, an Israeli broadcaster, that Hezbollah had "crossed all the red lines here".
He added: "We are nearing the moment in which we face an all-out war".
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military's chief spokesman, said that 20 people were wounded in the Golan Heights attack.
He described it as the deadliest assault on Israeli civilians since Hamas's incursion from Gaza on 7 October, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people.
The Hamas attack prompted Israel's ongoing offensive in Gaza. According to local health officials in the enclave, more than 39,000 people have lost their lives in the conflict, which has now lasted nearly 10 months. It should be noted that this figure does not differentiate between civilians and Hamas fighters.
Tensions have further escalated with an Israeli airstrike on a school in central Gaza earlier on Saturday. Palestinian health officials report that at least 30 people, including seven children, were killed in the attack, with another 100 wounded.
Israel's military claims it targeted a Hamas command centre allegedly embedded within the school.
The conflict has increasingly spilled over into neighbouring areas.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire since October 8, with recent weeks seeing an intensification of hostilities along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Israeli airstrikes and Hezbollah's rocket and drone attacks have been striking deeper and further away from the border.
