Israel has officially declared that stopping Hezbollah's attacks in the north to allow residents to return is now a key war objective. The country is contemplating a broader military operation that could potentially escalate into a full-scale conflict.

Israeli officials have issued warnings of more substantial military actions to cease the almost daily attacks that began following the onset of the yearlong Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. Israel has responded with airstrikes and targeted senior Hezbollah commanders, raising concerns of an imminent all-out war.

The ongoing tit-for-tat strikes have displaced tens of thousands of individuals on both sides of the border. Hezbollah has indicated a willingness to cease attacks if a Gaza cease-fire is achieved, but negotiations have stalled. The United States has urged restraint while providing military aid to Israel, cautioning against the escalation of a broader conflict.

Reports suggest that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is contemplating replacing Defense Minister Yoav Gallant with a more hawkish politician, marking a significant leadership change since the outbreak of the Gaza war.

Following a late-night meeting, Israel's security Cabinet announced the updated war objectives, emphasizing the safe return of northern residents to their homes. U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein has engaged in efforts to ease tensions, advising against escalating the conflict with Hezbollah.

Netanyahu emphasized the need for a fundamental security change in the north to facilitate residents' return. Defense Minister Gallant highlighted the shift in focus from Gaza to Israel's northern region, warning of the looming deadline for an agreement with Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has expressed readiness for confrontation to protect Lebanon, should Israel expand the conflict. The Gaza war, initiated by Hamas, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement, with ongoing efforts to broker a lasting cease-fire and release hostages.

Iran's support for militant groups targeting Israeli and U.S. interests has added complexity to the regional dynamics, with recent missile launches and threats of retaliation. Despite international efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement, negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain deadlocked.
