Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed that Israel has not yet informed the US about the date of their planned invasion of Rafah. However, discussions are expected to take place next week between the Biden administration and Israeli officials regarding this issue.
Blinken emphasized President Biden's concerns about the need for Israel to prioritize the safety of civilians, particularly women and children, during any military operation. He stated that the US is engaging with Israel to explore alternative solutions that would address the situation in Rafah without putting innocent lives at risk.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously announced the decision to invade Rafah, but the specific date was not disclosed.
Regarding humanitarian aid to Gaza, Blinken mentioned that 400 aid trucks were permitted to enter the enclave on Monday, marking the highest daily number since the conflict began on October 7. He stressed the importance of sustained efforts to ensure that aid reaches those in need.
While Blinken indicated that no immediate actions are expected before the upcoming discussions, he expressed hope for a resolution that prioritizes the well-being of civilians in Rafah.
