Israel's far-right Finance Minister has requested urgent injunctions to prevent a planned nationwide strike on Monday. The Finance Minister argued that the strike would harm the economy during wartime and set a dangerous precedent. The Attorney General's office has not yet commented on the request.
Earlier, the Finance Minister instructed the salary department to withhold payment from anyone participating in the strike on Monday. The nationwide general strike was called by the leader of Israel's largest labor union to pressure the government to secure the return of hostages in Gaza.
The Finance Minister stated that the strike lacks legal basis and is politically motivated to influence state security policy decisions. He emphasized that such issues fall under the authority of the political establishment and are not related to labor relations in Israel.
The labor leader leading the strike has vowed to shut down the entire Israeli economy starting at 6 a.m. local time on Monday. He expressed frustration over the lack of progress in securing a hostage deal and believes that only a strike can bring about the necessary shock to address the situation.
