Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that Israel maintains the right to resume fighting Hamas if the ceasefire agreement, which includes the release of hostages, collapses. Netanyahu emphasized that the United States would support Israel in such actions.
In a televised address preceding the ceasefire's commencement on Sunday, Netanyahu expressed gratitude towards both the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration for their roles in facilitating the deal. He commended the bravery of Israeli fighters and reiterated the government's commitment to achieving its objectives in the conflict.
Netanyahu highlighted the importance of upholding Israel's national interests and resisting external pressures. He issued a warning to Hamas, urging the group to adhere to the terms of the agreement.
Both President Biden and President-elect Trump have reportedly endorsed Israel's right to resume military operations if Hamas violates the ceasefire terms. Netanyahu acknowledged this support and pledged to respond with strength and innovation if necessary.
“If we need to return to fighting, we will do so in new ways, and we will do it with great strength,” Netanyahu affirmed.
