Israel's Foreign Affairs Minister Israel Katz has strongly criticized the recent passing of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly, which calls for the UN Security Council to reconsider UN Membership for the Palestinian Authority.
Katz expressed his disapproval of the decision, labeling it as absurd and highlighting what he perceives as a structural bias within the UN. He went on to criticize the UN's perceived irrelevance under the leadership of Secretary-General Guterres, stating that the decision sends a message that 'violence pays off' in the region.
Furthermore, Katz raised concerns about the potential impact of the resolution on negotiations related to the release of hostages in Gaza, suggesting that it could provide support to Hamas.
The foreign minister expressed gratitude towards the countries that did not vote in favor of the resolution, commending them for standing on the 'right side of history and morality.'
The UNGA resolution, which received 143 votes in favor, nine against, and 25 abstentions, calls on the UN Security Council to reconsider Palestinian membership and emphasizes that the State of Palestine is qualified for UN membership.
