At least seven medical nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have been informed that they will no longer be permitted to enter the Palestinian enclave, according to sources familiar with the matter. This development follows a warning from the United States to Israel regarding the need to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza or face potential consequences in military assistance.
The affected groups, including FAJR, Glia, the Palestinian American Medical Association, and at least four others with a significant presence in the Palestinian territories, were reportedly notified by the World Health Organization of the ban imposed by Israel. Individuals affiliated with these organizations who are currently in Gaza will not be allowed re-entry upon departure.
Dorotea Gucciardo, the director of development for Glia, confirmed that their organization is among those prohibited from entering Gaza. She expressed concerns about the impact of this decision on healthcare services in the region, stating that it will further hinder the provision of essential care to Palestinians already enduring the effects of a prolonged military blockade.
Efforts to obtain comments on this situation have been made to Fajr, the Palestinian American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Gaza’s Ministry of Health, and Israel’s office for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories.
