Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz stated on Monday that there were 'significant gaps' between Israel and Hamas following Hamas' acceptance of a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal mediated by Qatar and Egypt. Gantz expressed that the Hamas version of the proposal did not align with the ongoing dialogue with the mediators and contained notable discrepancies.
Despite the differences, Gantz emphasized the commitment to exploring all possibilities for resolution, mentioning that a delegation would be sent to Cairo for further discussions. He highlighted the importance of working towards the return of Israeli hostages, describing it as a 'war goal' and a 'supreme moral duty'.
Gantz assured that the negotiating team and professionals were actively engaged in the process, dedicating every moment to the effort. He emphasized that all decisions would be presented to the War Cabinet without any political considerations.
