Representatives from both Hamas and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire framework, US President Joe Biden has said.
He has announced: “Six weeks ago I laid out a comprehensive framework for how to achieve a ceasefire and bring the hostages home.
“There is still work to do and these are complex issues, but that framework is now agreed to by both Israel and Hamas.
“My team is making progress and I'm determined to get this done.”
The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
More than 38,240 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.
Dozens of hostages remain missing.
