Israel has accused members of a United Nations fact-finding commission into war crimes in the region of having 'a track record of antisemitic and anti-Israel statements' after a UN commissioner accused Israel of actively obstructing efforts to collect evidence from victims and firsthand witnesses of Hamas’ October 7 attacks.
The Israeli mission to the UN in Geneva expressed concerns that the victims of Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7 may not receive the justice and dignified treatment they deserve due to the alleged biases of the Commission of Inquiry members. However, Israel did not provide any evidence to substantiate these claims.
The UN Commission of Inquiry has been diligently gathering evidence of war crimes committed by all parties involved since the October 7 attacks. Commissioner Chris Sidoti highlighted that the Israeli government was impeding the collection of evidence from Israeli witnesses and victims in southern Israel.
Israel's UN mission countered these accusations by stating that Israel has been conducting thorough internal investigations into the crimes committed by Hamas during the attack. They claimed to be meticulously collecting evidence and testimonies to ensure justice for the victims. Additionally, Israel mentioned that independent mechanisms and institutions, including United Nations representatives, have visited Israel to meet with survivors and victims of the terrorist attack.
