Israel Accuses Iran And Hamas Of Smuggling Weapons Into Jordan

Israeli army says it found Hamas operatives, money and weapons in Al Shifa Hospital

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has raised concerns about a potential destabilization effort in Jordan and the West Bank orchestrated by Iran and its Palestinian proxy, Hamas. Katz alleged that Iranian Revolutionary Guard Units are collaborating with Hamas operatives in Lebanon to smuggle weapons and funds into Jordan with the intention of destabilizing the region.

According to Katz, these weapons are then transported into the West Bank, particularly areas like Judea and Samaria, where refugee camps are located. The influx of weapons and funds aims to establish a pro-Iranian Islamic terror front in the region, leaving the Palestinian Authority powerless to intervene.

Katz emphasized the need for a comprehensive operational campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure in places like the Jenin refugee camp. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation to counter Iran's influence and prevent the spread of terrorism.

Escalating Tensions and Retaliatory Threats

The accusations come amidst escalating tensions following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, for which Israel was immediately blamed. The situation was further complicated by the death of Faud Shukr, a Hezbollah commander, in Lebanon.

Efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have been ongoing, with mediators from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt working towards a three-phase plan. The plan involves the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

International Calls for De-escalation

France, Germany, and Britain have issued a joint statement endorsing the ceasefire plan and urging the return of hostages held by Hamas. The leaders also called for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected regions.

The statement emphasized the need for Iran and its allies to refrain from retaliatory actions that could further escalate tensions in the region. Talks to resume negotiations are scheduled for Thursday, with hopes of reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
