Gold Coast are poised to hand a club debut to recruit Jamayne Isaako with young gun Jayden Campbell in doubt for Thursday's NRL match against Wests Tigers.
Campbell is set to have scans after suffering a rib injury in Saturday's 24-22 loss to Canberra with coach Justin Holbrook confirming on Monday it was unlikely the 22-year-old would be fit to face the Tigers at Cbus Super Stadium.
It means Isaako, who joined the Titans last week for the remainder of 2022 after being granted an immediate release by Brisbane, is set to make his first appearance for his new club.
"If JC's no good it does give Jamayne the opportunity for sure," Holbrook said.
"He's only been here a few days but he's a good character, a great character.
"He's got plenty of experience and is a quality player ... if he gets the opportunity on Thursday I know he'll go well."
Holbrook also confirmed former Tigers back Corey Thompson may be in the mix for selection having missed the first three weeks of the season due to a fractured hand.
The Titans coach, meanwhile, played down a controversial blunder by match officials just before halftime in the loss to the Raiders in which referee Chris Sutton indicated it was the last tackle after only four plays with the visitors in possession.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports the incident is being investigated by the NRL but Holbrook said after holding a 22-0 lead the controversy shouldn't have affected his team's ability to claim victory.
"It's not ideal that's for sure but we've just got to play better ourselves," he said.
"We put ourselves in a good enough position to win that.
"It shouldn't matter in the long run."
