Netflix is yet to officially renew Wednesday for a second outing

Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams in the popular series, which debuted on Netflix in November 2022. The streaming behemoth went on to enjoy great success with it.
With more than 400 million hours seen in a single week, Wednesday surpassed Stranger Things as the English-language Netflix series with the most viewers.
Despite Wednesday's enormous success, Netflix has yet to order a second season of the show. The popularity of the programme practically ensures it will be recommissioned, but will Netflix keep it?
Prime Video is a potential candidate
Netflix will be eager to keep Wednesday on its service but, given that the show is an MGM production, the streamer may not have a choice in the matter.
The rights to Wednesday might be included in the $8.5 billion (£7.06 billion) transaction that Amazon and MGM completed, as Deadline reported last year.
This could mean that season two could premiere on Amazon’s streaming giant, Prime Video, instead of Netflix.
This isn’t confirmed and is only speculation, but Netflix may strike a deal with Amazon in order to keep the popular series.
As reported by Deadline, Amazon has declared that it does not intend to make all MGM material exclusively available through Prime Video, giving Netflix users some comfort.
Producers of the show are apparently already looking for shooting sites and writers for the upcoming season despite there being no official word on a renewal.
The head of US and Canadian scripted series at Netflix, Peter Friedlander, recently told Variety that he was “optimistic” about the future of Wednesday despite the uncertainty surrounding the location of a prospective second season.
He said: “You may know what I’m going to say – but I have nothing to confirm at this time. I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that.”
What is Wednesday about?
Wednesday is Tim Burton’s take on the Addams Family.
It follows the titular teenage daughter as she adjusts to a new school for outcasts and is subsequently tasked with developing her psychic ability, resolving a long-running supernatural mystery, and stopping a local killing spree — all while making new friends.
