Is VAR being used in Europa League final and is there extra-time if a draw?

Rangers are now just days away from one of the biggest games in the club's history as they travel to Seville for the Europa League final.

It's been an incredible European journey for the Gers, in which they've overcame the odds on multiple occasions - as they'll look to do one more time on Wednesday night. Their Europa League final will see them face German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, as the two leading scorers go head-to-head in the competition with 20 and 22 goals respectively.

The Scottish side have already eliminated two German clubs in the knockout stages in Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. The showpiece final will be played at Sevilla's home ground, the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, which the Gers played at back in December of 2009 in a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League.

Here at GlasgowLive, we've put together all the information of the cup final rules that you'll need to know ahead of Wednesday's game.

Is VAR being used?

The video assistant referee system (VAR) will be used in the Europa League final.

The system was first brought in to European football in 2018/19, being used in Liverpool's UEFA Champions League win over Tottenham. Since then, it was brought in to the Europa League knockouts the following season, and is now used in group stages of the tournament.

Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst praised VAR in their win over Red Star Belgrade when his team were awarded a penalty after intervention from VAR while two Red Star goals were disallowed using the video ref.

Will there be extra-time?

If the score is equal at the end of normal time, two 15-minute periods of extra-time are played. If one of the teams scores more goals than the other during extra-time, that team are declared the winners.

If the score is still equal after extra-time, the winners are determined by kicks from the penalty mark.

What TV channel is it on?

Coverage of the final is on BT Sport 1 HD and in ultra-high definition on BT Sport Ultimate from 6.30pm.
