Yesterday the MEN reported that a new study suggested that Manchester is the best city for parking in the UK. As you'd expect the controversial report made quite the impression on our readers who had a lot to say about this.
The research was carried out by car finance and loan firm Moneybarn, who analysed the number of NCP parking spaces versus the number of licensed cars in each UK city to reveal the ‘best’ city for parking. According to Moneybarn Manchester clocked 37.77 parking spaces per 1,000 cars, with Cambridge's 35.92 spaces per 1,000 and Colchester's 28.08 coming second and third in their list.
Judging by our Facebook reader's comments many simply did not agree with the notion that the city is the best for parking. In fact, some readers thought the report was one big joke with many taking their chance to comically mock the survey.

One reader hilariously chimed: "They do realise that getting stuck in traffic on Mancunian way isn’t classed as parking?"
Another simply said: "Is this some sort of sick joke?". While one made referenced the report being an April fools day joke by saying: "It's Sep 1st, not April 1st."
Another reader added: "If Manchester is one of the best I would hate to see one of the worst."
One of our readers who felt strongly about the report said: "Clearly didn't ask anyone that actually needs to park in Manchester."
Many also made sure to mention the pricing in the city centre as a reason why Manchester surely can't be the best for parking in the UK.
One reader who conceded that while there may be spaces, it isn't exactly the cheapest city to park in. Commenting on our post on Facebook they said: "Plenty of spaces because no one can afford to park for more than an hour."
Another reader described the prices in the centre and Manchester Airport as 'horrid'. They said: "Yeah right…the parking is so expensive everywhere in town, and the airport are just horrid!!!"
Another said: "That’s if you can get into the centre as there’s mainly roadworks everywhere or they are stopping cars from going into the centre."

Other readers also highlighted that the survey was limited with it only mentioning parking spaces available with one parking company.
One said: "Should actually read ‘Manchester has the most parking spaces per 1,000 cars’, it’s not necessarily the ‘best place’ or even ‘cheapest’."
Another described their experience with NCP car park and said. "Hmmm. I entered NCP car park as was showing spaces. Drove round. Not one space! Had to pay about a fiver to just exit, then find another car park and pay again!"
Surprisingly however, not everybody disagreed with the report, it was hard to find them, but there were some readers who praised the city's parking. One reader who said the 'outskirts' of Manchester was 'blessed with parking' said: "It's right. Manchester is blessed with parking. Some pricey some cheap.
"You can park on the outskirts of the city centre for about £2.50 -£3.00 all day. And even some city centre parking spots are £1.00 per hr. Try getting that in London."
Another reader with a glowing review of Manchester's city centre parking said: "Drove down to Manchester this week for the 1st time in years (use the train). Used meter park at Chapel St arches, cost £4 for 4 hours! No problem, these days that’s seemed good to me, and I hate paying!!!!"
