Scores of Mancs say they are gutted after the owner of a Taylor Swift figure which has become 'iconic' amongst tram passengers revealed its future was now up in the air.
The cardboard cut-out of the American pop sensation has become known as an institution in the city during its time on display in the window of its owner's Castlefield apartment.
'Tram Taylor' has become a landmark and a much-cherished part of the landscape for those who regularly travel between Cornbrook and the city centre.
But its owner has confirmed they are now moving out of the city and relocating, leaving the fate of the smiling 2D Taylor, clad in a red dress, in limbo.
Comedian Red Redmond said on Twitter: "I own the infamous Taylor Swift cut-out you can see from the tram. I am moving to Sheffield next week. The future of #TramTaylor is uncertain."
Adding: "FYI if anyone wants to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in Castlefield it costs £950pm and comes with a FREE cardboard cut-out of Taylor Swift."
The news sparked widespread devastation amongst its fans, dozens of whom took to social media to say their commutes would 'never be the same again.'
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said on Twitter: "A Metrolink icon is under threat. Is this Love Story coming to an end? #TramTaylor
@MCRMetrolink " Willem said: "NOOOOOO NOT TRAM TAYLOR." Jesse Thomas said: "Manchester is grieving."
John Ossoway said: "End of an era. We always wave at #TramTaylor when on the tram. I remember feeling happy the first time I got the tram post-lockdown and me and my daughter waved at her." Wren said: "I look for her every time. She will be deeply missed."
David said: "No f*****g way!!!! I genuinely used to see this on the tram every morning and breathe a sigh of relief that I was halfway there. RIP cardboard Taylor." Jenna G said: " #tramtaylor don’t go!!! Tram travel to town is - well I dunno what I will be without you!!!"
Thom Hetherington said: "An unwelcome blow to Manchester's visitor tourism, though South Yorkshire tourism bosses will be gleeful."
Illya Szkwarok said: "This city can't have anything nice anymore." Jess said: "2023 has claimed its first legend" alongside an emoji of a broken heart."
Others pleaded for someone to step in and save her. Claire Quansah said: "This is a Manchester institution. A modern-day wonder of the world. Who will save #TramTaylor?!" Libatory Brewing said: "Let’s hope one of your neighbours can give her a new home if the new tenants can’t. #tramtaylor "
Scott said: "SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING! I always say this needs permanently protecting and preserving like a Banksy. It should be stipulated in the next tenants contract they cannot remove it.
Whilst Tom added: "I think @MCRMetrolink should buy and preserve this national heritage site before this city is scarred for life."
