Just under two years since they eloped in a surprise Vegas ceremony, Bennifer are finally over. According to E!News, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce in L.A County Superior Court on August 20th. She listed the date of her separation with Affleck April 26th, 2024. August 20th is the anniversary of the couple’s official wedding ceremony in Georgia.
Rumours of the couple’s breakup emerged in May when Jennifer Lopez attended the Met Gala alone. Then, both Affleck and J.Lo skipped each other’s birthdays this August.
The Daily Mail has reported that the couple are “pushing ahead with the divorce after a final attempt at reconciliation in recent weeks failed.” Sources told People that Lopez is “heartbroken.” “She really tried to make things work and is heartbroken,” the source told People. “The kids are top priority as they always have been.”
Later, the publication’s sources have claimed that the divorce documents are “finalized, but not yet turned in.”
The rumours of divorce began as a tabloid report, with InTouch claiming on May 15 that an “insider” told them: “The writing is on the wall—it’s over. They’re headed for a divorce” Other tabloids jumped in with their own sources in following days, including TMZ, who claimed the couple are living separately.
In the week following, things got increasingly confusing, with Affleck being spotted sans-ring; Lopez liking a cryptic Instagram post about unhealthy relationships; even more tabloid reports; and finally, the sale of their recently-purchased $60 million family home.

TMZ reported that Jennifer Lopez’s divorce documents did not say whether or not there was a prenuptial agreement. She waived spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck spousal support.

Back in May, Page Six, last week Lopez was caught liking an Instagram post about unhealthy relationships.
The infographic-style post explained that “you cannot build a healthy relationship with somebody” who “lacks integrity and emotional safety,” “doesn’t respect your time,” “lacks communication skills” and “doesn’t know who they are or what they want.”
Jennifer Lopez had been effusive about her happiness with Affleck, so her engagement with the Instagram post was surprising to fans.

The divorce rumour mill heated up again in May with the news that Lopez had cancelled her global This Is Me… Now tour. But the singer’s reasoning for cancelling the shows has fans suspicious that her marriage might be on the rocks.
Taking to her newsletter, On The JLo, Lopez wrote, “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down.”

Bennifer Are Reportedly Selling Their $60 Million Family Home
On June 10, multiple outlets reported that the couple put their family home on the market.
Lopez and Affleck purchased the Beverly Hills mansion for a whopping US^0.8 million just over a year ago, in May 2023.
The 4270 square-metre home boasts 12 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, an indoor sports complex and a 12 car garage, according to Entertainment Tonight. Despite this, Lopez shut down rumours of a divorce rumours again in May while asked about it on a press tour for the film Atlas. She responded to a reporter’s question: “You know better than that,” before moving on.

Differences In Approach To The Relationship
In a May 21 report, a source told People their marriage simply “is not in the best place at the moment.” They claimed that the marital tension is down the the personality conflicts, with Lopez wanting to “open her heart to her fans and to the world,” and Affleck being “more introspective and private.”
However, the pair’s bond has remained for two decades, with Affleck and Lopez rekindling their romance in 2021, 17 years after they originally broke up. As the source noted, “There have always been clashes in their styles and how they handle issues, but nothing has stopped their love over the years.”
