Is there a team in the NBA with a better top six players on their roster than the Boston Celtics? There might be a handful of ball clubs in the ballpark, but the Celtics stand alone when it comes to the concentration of talent at the top of the contending team’s rotation.
Boston not only has two current All-NBA forwards on the roster with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and three former All-Stars on the team apart from Tatum and Brown in Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford. Throw in former All-Defensive floor general Derrick White, and one would be hard-pressed to find a similar assortment of talent 1-6 in the league.
One can argue that there are teams close to Boston’s level with a deeper bench, but training camp and preseason play have hinted that the Celtics may actually have some depth beyond what was expected there as well.
The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast sat down with the Athletic NBA insider Jared Weiss to break down the strength of the roster on a recent episode, including how it stacks up against Boston’s peers.
