Is The BMW G 310 R Getting Discontinued Completely?

I've ridden a few BMWs in my time, and for the most part, they're nicely built bikes with a lot to offer. Heck, even the C 400 GT scooter I rode a few years ago had some of the bitiest front brakes I've ever felt on a scooter. They were so good, I was kind of envious of them, if I'm honest; my own aging maxi scooter's brakes definitely aren't as responsive.

But the BMW G 310 R holds a special place in my heart, of all the BMWs. Why? Because again, if we're being completely honest, it's the only current BMW I really ever saw myself owning. I liked it a lot when I rode it; it was super fun and nimble, and pretty perfect for a lot of everyday riding. And the styling is impeccable. Granted, this was before I started riding the snot out of the Street Triple, but that's kind of comparing apples and oranges, isn't it?

With all that in mind, the news out of India that the BMW G 310 R and GS have been discontinued—at least, in India—gave me a little pang of sadness in my heart. It's such a fun little bike. India also gets the G 310 RR, which so far hasn't been discontinued. In fact, if you look at the BMW Motorrad India website, it's currently the only G 310 you can find in the dropdown menu of all currently available motorcycle models.

You can still access the dedicated pages for both the G 310 R and G 310 GS if you do a site search for the term "G 310" and follow the appropriate links, like so:

Why get rid of the G 310 R and GS? Tightening emissions standards in India, about which you can find a good explainer very fittingly on the TVS website. As fans of the G 310 lineup know, it's a product of a long-running partnership between BMW Motorrad and TVS, and is manufactured by TVS for BMW in India, regardless of where in the world the bikes are sold.

RideApart has reached out to BMW Motorrad for further information regarding this discontinuation, including the question of whether it's discontinued in other markets as well. At the time of writing, they have so far not responded, but we'll be sure to keep you updated with any response we receive.

Do you love the G 310 R and/or GS? Will you be sad that they're gone? Let us know in the comments!
