After Thursday’s loss to the New England Patriots, you could feel the shift in tone from head coach Mike Tomlin in the postgame press conference. No matter how poorly the team has played this season, Tomlin’s perspective had always been one of optimism on some level.
But at this point, I’m not sure if Tomlin’s catchphrases and empty platitudes can replace the team’s lack of production. Even more than that, it is the lack of effort and heart this team is playing with that is a direct reflection of the coaching staff.
After 17 seasons as the Steelers head coach, Tomlin has seen some real ups and downs in terms of success but at this point, you have to wonder if he’s lost his team. After so many years of the same message, it might be time for a new messenger. This isn’t to say Tomlin is a bad coach but he might not be the best coach for this current group of Steelers.
