Newcastle United have confirmed the deadline-day arrival of West Ham prospect Harrison Ashby. The young full-back has signed a long-term contract on Tyneside, having resisted attempts to extend his deal with the Hammers.
David Moyes confirmed a previous approach from the Magpies was turned down, with West Ham still holding hope Ashby could be convinced to sign a new deal beyond this summer. However, the Hammers boss confirmed on Monday night that the 21-year-old had his heart set on a St James' Park switch.
Ashby has only made seven first-team appearances with the Hammers, with two coming in this season's Europa Conference League. The Magpies' new signing is expected to compete with Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo for the role of Kieran Trippier's understudy.

Away from deadline day however, there is also the small matter of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with Southampton to negotiate. Eddie Howe's side take a one-goal lead into the St James' Park tie, with Joelinton scoring the only goal of the game at St Mary's.
Ashby is expected to be in the stands to cheer on his new team-mates, and the January signing would be eligible for a prospective Wembley final next month. West Ham bowed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round with a home penalty shootout loss to Blackburn Rovers, and the full-back was not included in the matchday squad on that occasion.
