Is Loose Women on today? ITV show cancelled as Boris Johnson's resignation looms

Loose Women will be cancelled today as Boris Johnson's resignation looms.

The ITV lunchtime show was expected to be on for half an hour today - rather than its usual hour slot between 12.30pm and 1.30pm - as ITV switch coverage to the news amid Mr Johnson's resignation.

Mr Johnson has suffered a huge backlash from his own government, with over 50 MPs having resigned from their positions with the government as newly appointed Nadhim Zahawi and Michelle Donelan even called for him to resign - with the latter tending her own resignation as she said she's had to do so to "force" the Prime Minister's hand.

On today's Loose Women, Charlene White, Sunetra Sarker, Judi Love and Kelle Bryan were expected to be joined by comedian and TV presenter Katherine Ryan as they discuss her new show - but now ITV will revert to news coverage.

Mr Zahawi penned a blistering letter to the Prime Minister to call for him to resign.

"Yesterday, I made clear to the Prime Minister alongside my colleagues in No 10 that there was only one direction where this was going, and that he should leave with dignity. Out of respect, and in the hopes that he would listen to an old friend of 30 years, I kept this counsel private," he wrote in his poignant letter.

"I am heartbroken that he hasn't listened and that he is now undermining the incredible achievements of this Government at this late hour. No one will forget getting Brexit done, keeping a dangerous antisemite out of No10, our handling of covid and our support for Ukraine in its hour of need. But the country deserves a Government that is not only stable, but which acts with integrity.

He added: "Prime Minister, you know in your heart what the right thing to do is, and go now."

Elsewhere, Ms Donelan said she had "no choice" but to resign.

"I see no way you can continue in post, but without a formal mechanism to remove you it seems that the only way this is possible is for those of us who remain in Cabinet to force your hand," she said, "You have put us in an impossible situation. I am deeply saddened that it has come to this, but as someone who values integrity I have no choice."

Downing Street has confirmed there will be a statement made by the Prime Minister later today.
