It’s no secret the New York Giants have a multitude of issues to fix going into the 2025 NFL Draft, set to be one of the first teams picking as an abysmal 2024 continues for them.
Could they use their first pick to select a quarterback? New York has had no shortage of issues at the position, and as the Giants are projected to have either the first or the second overall pick in April, many anticipate they will take either Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) or Cam Ward (Miami).
It will probably just come down to a matter of which one is available at that point if the Giants pick second, and there is hardly any question that just one of the two will be available at that point if that is how the cookie crumbles.
Based on some recent rumors, it sounds like some are anticipating that Ward will make the stronger case for the No. 1 pick. No matter what, either player could give the Giants an instant boost at the position.
With the way Drew Lock has been playing, most recently completing 22 of his 39 passing attempts for 210 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the 34-7 blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons, it is safe to say the bar is set pretty low.
Not only does it appear to be the best option for the Giants to take a quarterback-first mentality in April, but it is also anticipated that the team will face a ton of backlash from its fan base if it does anything else early on.
Two-way player Travis Hunter could be an attractive option for either of the first two teams picking, but he’s not going to go before Ward or Sanders.

“They’re going to do it,” former Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh said in an interview with RG. “There’s too much pressure not to do it. If you take Travis Hunter instead of Shedeur or Cam Ward, there’s going to be riots in the streets. Everybody lives and breathes by the quarterback. I’m much firmer of a believer that you pay your QB a certain percentage of salary cap and young QB’s fit that bill.”
It will be interesting to watch what the Giants do with the pick and where they ultimately fall in the pecking order as the season winds down, but there is definitely much ado about the quarterback position.
