Is Ian Hislop packing his bags at Private Eye?

That’s enough, Ed.

Ian Hislop has had a long, distinguished and, er, long tenure at the helm of Private Eye, having served as editor for nearly 40 years, and he's ruffled a fair few feathers in the Square Mile over that time.

Will he finally call it a day in 2024? A friend of star journalist Helen Lewis gets in touch to tell Spy she is being gently primed to take on the reins of Fleet Street’s sassiest news mag, after gradually increasing her role there over the past year.

Or maybe not – we shall see. Eye told Spy there are “no plans” for him to step down.
