Is Hyperoptic down? Users across London report issues with connection

London-based internet service Hyperoptic went down today leaving hundreds of customers without access.

According to DownDetector, the first complaints started coming through around 1 pm, and two hours later a total number of 2,587 people had reported issues.

At the time of writing, 73 per cent of complaints have been made towards WiFi stability, with 22 per cent facing total blackout and the remaining five per cent facing issues with the internet.

Some of the postcodes impacted include NW9, E1, E5, SM1, and SW5.

The company have taken to Twitter to address the problem and said: “Hi everyone, we are currently experiencing a severe outage affecting a number of different post codes, along with our website hosting servers. We are working on it as we speak, with more updates to follow.”

Several customers have taken to Twitter to vent.

One customer said: “Not great for those of us that work from home! Hope it’s sorted swiftly so I don’t incur data charges from my mobile provider for hotspotting!”

Another customer added: “@Hyperoptic @HyperopticCS Are you down in SW5? No connection at all!! Unable to log in to my account to check service status (using mobile data)”

A third added: “@HyperopticCS For the fourth day (21st of July) this week, your service is (emoji) “I can see that we’ve had planned engineer works on both the 18th and the 20th of July. In addition to this, there was an unexpected outage on the 19th.”

Hyperoptics last faced a confirmed similar issue on June 22 and it was fixed in 1 hour and 29 minutes according to their Twitter. We anticipate a similar fix time for all customers this time round.
