Is Fortnite down? Server downtime for Chapter 4 Season 3 update begins

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is on its way, with the game currently experiencing downtime before today's update.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3, also known as Fortnite Wilds, will go live today, and we got our first look at the new content update at last night's Summer Game Fest Showcase. Epic Games has been teasing what's to come in this new season all week, but thanks to last night's trailer we know a lot more. The recent Fortnite leaks turned out to be correct, we're getting an Optimus Prime skin, a new jungle biome area and Grind Rails return, as Wood Vines.

Fortnite server downtime began today at 7am BST / 2am EDT on June 9 and 11pm PDT, ahead of the Fortnite 25.00 update. Fortnite downtime can last anywhere from two to five hours when an update goes live, so we'd expect the game will be back playable by 12am BST / 7am EDT / 4am PDT today.

Matchmaking typically goes down half an hour prior to the update going live so make sure to finish up any games before then, including finishing off the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 battle pass and the Eren Jaeger quests before they become unavailable.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 – early patch notes

Thanks to a mixture of official material from Epic Games and leaks from the likes of ShiinaBR and HYPEX we know about the following changes and additions for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3

  • New jungle area taking up the middle of the map
  • Optimus Prime skin as the tier 100 battle pass skin
  • New Optimus Prime mythic weapon
  • Secret battle pass skin which is a reskin of a past skin (speculated to be Purradise Meowscles or Mariposa)
  • Grind Rails returning as Wood Vines
  • Racing mode with Speed Objects, Cosmetics, Car Garage, Sky/Ground Race Tracks & the default car is a new Supercar
  • Racing mode-specific battle pass
  • Grind Rails most likely re-skinned into wood vines
  • Armoured Cars With Hostile "Goons" NPCs in them
  • 14 Days of Summer events: "Propping" & "Mural"
  • Helicopters are getting a "Launcher" that shoots every 2 seconds and deals 35 damage & 450 builds damage

  • Rideable Raptors

  • Possibly the return of Tents

  • New Mythic Drum Shotgun, and return of Lever Action & Infantry Rifle

  • Epic/Legendary variants of the Thermal Bolt Action Sniper

  • A Lever Pistol seen on the leaked loading screen and in Rian's art

We don't know if all of these will be available at the launch of the new season, we'll know for sure when the new season launches later today.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is set to take us through the summer, culminating sometime in September if past battle passes are any indication.
