Is Fortnite down? Players report server issues as v29.30 update arrives

Although it has been less than a month since the last Fortnite update, Epic Games delivered version 29.30 Tuesday, April 23.

The latest update has been met with plenty of excitement from players, as they welcome a bunch of new content for the popular shooting game.

The latest update brings plenty of crossover content, which is typical of more recent updates to the game.

This includes bringing megastar Billie Eilish to Fortnite Festival, new Marvel skins for players, and even more updates to Battle Royale and Zero Build.

Players have been hotly anticipating the latest update, especially in light of leaked information ahead of the release.

When updates begin rolling out on Epic Games’ servers, this usually brings with it a period of scheduled downtime, and this update was no different.

Sometimes, the downtime can last for several hours.

Epic confirmed via a post on X that Fortnite server downtime for update v29.30 would begin at 9am UK time / 4am EDT / 1am PDT.

Following the normal procedure, matchmaking servers went down 30 minutes before this, so that players could finish off their match before it goes down.

This means that players were unable to join matches from 8.30am UK time.

Epic usually schedules in downtime just before a major update, which allows time for new content to be added. However, this can understandably also be an inconvenience for players.

We can generally expect Fortnite servers to be down for three to four hours.

However, it is always worth players checking back to see if they can join a matchmaking server, as the downtime can sometimes finish earlier than planned, particularly with smaller updates.

The last Fortnite update was v29.20, which arrived on April 9.
