Fortnite update 24.40 is being rolled out this morning, with a Ranked mode finally set to be introduced after a short delay.
The next major update for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 is here, with Fortnite update 24.40 is being released today after being delayed by 24 hours. Update 24.40 will be released at around 8am BST / 3am EDT / 12am PDT today across all platforms, but matchmaking and servers typically go offline around 30 minutes before this, so realistically you won't be jump into a new game from around 7.30am BST / 2.30am EDT / 11.30am PDT.
Server and matchmaking downtime typically lasts for around four hours when there's a big update like this one, so you should be able to hop back in at 12pm BST / 7am EDT / 4am PDT. And when you do jump in, Fortnite Arena mode will be gone forever, replaced with the highly-anticipated Fortnite Ranked mode, with Epic Games introducing an ultra-competitive mode for the first time in the title's history.
Fortnite's Ranked mode will be playable in both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes, with Season Zero introducing Ranked Solos, Duos, and Squads in Battle Royale, while the Zero Build mode will be limited to Ranked Duos only for the rest of the current season.
Fortnite update 24.40 – early patch notes
There aren't any official Fortnite update 24.40 patch notes just yet, but thanks to a combination of the Fortnite Trello board and Epic Games' recent blog post, we have some early patch notes for update 24.40. We expect the following changes to be implemented for 24.40:
General
Continuing to make improvements regarding some large rocks on the Battle Royale Island not providing as many materials as intended.
Fixing an issue preventing players from being healed with Slurp Juice after being DBNO.
Back Blings equipped with the Clone Trooper Outfit will no longer appear detached.
The Clone Trooper Outfit’s head movement will no longer be static.
Fixing an issue causing some Outfits to appear glossy.
Balance Changes for Ranked
Material caps will be decreased from 999 to 500.
Harvesting rates will be slightly increased.
Players will drop 50 of each material when they are eliminated.
Prominent Fortnite leaker @ShiinaBR has also seemingly confirmed (leaked) some new content that we can expect to see in Fortnite update 24.40 including a Spider-Verse Collaboration, new augments, Chapter 4 Season 3 Starter Pack, June Crew Skin updated and a potential live event.
