Is Emmerdale's Sam Dingle dead? Fan's spot 'tell tale' signs he is still alive

Emmerdale fans are convinced they have spotted signs that soap favourite, Sam Dingle, played by actor James Hooten, is still alive following last night's graphic scenes which saw him impaled on a piece of farming machinery.

Viewers of the ITV soap were left gobsmacked as they witnessed Sam Dingle's brutal scene on Monday, October 17. The dramatic episode seemed to confirm the deadly storms first two victims - Harriet Finch and Sam Dingle.

Unfortunately Harriet died after a lightning strike blew up a quad bike which almost killed Kim Tate. Not long after, Sam fell victim of the storm. He was trying to fix a gate at the barn with Belle and Nate.

It didn’t go to plan and the cows ended up stampeding in panic. But Sam thought it would be a good idea to jump over the hay bales to escape. At first it seemed like he’d managed to flee.

But viewers were left gobsmacked as they witnessed a brutal scene in which Sam was slumped across a digger, with the spikes of the shovel piercing his now lifeless body. And while the brutal scene certainly seemed to confirm his fate, some Emmerdale fans think they have spotted clues that the Dingle favourite will pull through.

Taking to social media, viewers were quick to share their theories. One fan penned: "No they won't kill Sam off, he's part o the furniture!". A second said: "I thought he was a goner at first too but then the camera showed the front and we saw that the spike went through his shoulder not his heart/chest."

A third added: "The spike only went through his shoulder", another fan agreed: "It was on his shoulder, it's not life threatening" while another social media user said: "I hope he survives if there's no Sam, there's no Emmerdale!"

When speaking to the Yorkshire Live and other press about the shock scenes, actor James, who has played Sam Dingle for over 20 years, was asked whether the fallout to the scenes and the 50th week would be "huge" for the Dingle family, to which said: "Yeah, absolutely."

He was also asked about his time on the show, replying: "It has been fantastic," however, he remained coy over whether his character can survive.

What do you think, will he live to tell the tale? Let us know your theories in the comments section below.
