David Beckham teases Peaky Blinders fans on set with Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson

Flat-cap-loving David Beckham teased fans into thinking he had landed a cameo on Peaky Blinders after he shared a string of images from the set.

Beckham, 43, dressed the part as he brushed shoulders with gang-leader Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, in 1920s Birmingham.

Beckham posted selfies alongside portraits of Murphy and Paul Anderson, who plays Tommy’s older brother Arthur Shelby.

He posted another with show creator Steven Knight, writing: “Big thanks to creator, Steve Knight and the crew for looking after me. Excited for season 5.”

But all hope of a Beckham cameo was dashed when a spokesperson for the show told Manchester Evening News that the ex-sportsman was simply visiting the set.

The pictures come days after Beckham unveiled a Peaky Blinders inspired fashion line with the Kent & Curwen label he co-owns.

Beckham has made a series of minor cameos in a handful of films including The Man from UNCLE and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

The upcoming series of Peaky Blinders will follow Tommy in his new role as MP for Birmingham. It is expected to be centred on the financial crash of 1929.

Sam Claflin and Anya Taylor-Joy are among those making their debuts on the BBC period hit, including Logan Lucky’s Brian Gleeson, Happy New Year’s Neil Maskell, Butterfly actor Emmett J Scanlan, The Cry’s Kate Dickie and Lady Macbeth star Cosmo Jarvis.

BBC One boss Charlotte Moore announced in August that Peaky Blinders would move from BBC Two to BBC One after its fourth series attracted an average consolidated audience of 3.3 million viewers.
