Soap fans may be wondering when they'll next get their Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders fix as the TV schedules are disrupted. The Queen's state funeral will take place today, Monday, September 19, with all major broadcasters covering the historic event.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, aged 96, at Balmoral. Buckingham Palace announced the news at around 6.30pm with a brief statement. The following evening Charles, having automatically become King following the Queen's passing, gave his first address as monarch in which he paid tribute to his beloved mother.
Since then the Queen's coffin has travelled from Balmoral to London, via Scotland, where she has been lying in state in Westminster Hall. She will be laid to rest today (Monday) following a service at Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty’s coffin will then be carried from Wellington Arch by the State Hearse to Windsor where The Queen will be laid to rest alongside Prince Philip, who died in April 2021.

Sky News will provide full live coverage for free on Sky News, the Sky News App and on the Sky News YouTube channel, including a special programme starting at 9am from Westminster Abbey.
ITV will broadcast the service and procession live as part of a special programme with a documentary film broadcast at 7.30pm and a special programme at 9pm.
The BBC will be providing full coverage of The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen across television, radio, iPlayer and BBC Sounds. A special programme will be on air from 0800-1700 on BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer with BSL signed coverage on BBC Two.
This means that planned programming has been axed and the likes of Emmerdale, Corrie, and EastEnders will not be aired. On Tuesday, September 20, Emmerdale will be broadcast from 7p, with the episode originally scheduled for Monday airing firs. Coronation Street will then follow at 8pm with the episode originally scheduled for Monday.
EastEnders' next episode will also air on Tuesday, September 20, at 7.30pm. This will still leave the BBC One soap one episode behind but it’s not yet been confirmed when the missing episode will be aired.
