Nottingham Forest have clawed their way out of the Premier League relegation places. A thrilling 4-3 victory over all-but doomed Southampton was enough to edge them three points clear of Leeds and Leicester City. The trick now is to stay out of the drop zone after their final three games.
Next up for Steve Cooper's battlers is a trip to Chelsea, who finally managed to win under interim boss Frank Lampard when they went to Bournemouth last Saturday. Of course, Cooper and Co have struggled on the road this season, but went close at both Liverpool and Brentford in their most recent trips away from the City Ground. So will they finally seize the day at Stamford Bridge or will their woes continue?
All their principal relegation rivals - Everton, Leeds and Leicester - have home games this coming week, but none of them easy. Leeds entertain Newcastle on Saturday, Everton welcome champions-elect Manchester City to Goodison Park on Sunday while Leicester take on an erratic Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.
So, this time next week, Forest could still be clear of the drop zone, even higher up the table or back in danger. But with a significantly inferior goal difference compared to most of their rivals, they will know that one slip could be fatal to their survival hopes.
