While most odd reality dating shows focus on contestants finding love, Caught in the Act: Unfaithful is attuned to lust.
In the midst of unraveling Too Hot To Handle season 5 and meeting the new Love Island USA cast, the second of the unorthodox series premiered on MTV on Tuesday, July 11, moving from its original home of VH1. Tami Roman of Basketball Wives fame has hosted both seasons and is particularly excited to delve into the problematic relationships of the sophomore installment.
"It’s been an incredible journey working on this show, and I can’t wait for viewers to see the compelling stories we’ve captured,” Roman said in a statement. " I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a show that sheds light on the important topic of infidelity in relationships and how to either confront and repair or move on and heal."
But is this new series authentic, or are we witnessing staged events? What we know.
Is 'Caught in the Act' fake?
While the network nor the host has addressed the authenticity, fans assume that—like most reality shows—Caught in the Act: Unfaithful is a combination of reality and fiction.
For the uninitiated, the series follows a couple with one unfaithful partner who will be captured cheating on his or her S.O. during the episode. From there, dating coaches are brought in to assess the problems and work on a potential reconciliation, provided the connection is not too far gone. Will the partner who experienced the heartbreak get justice?
Some fans questioned how pulling off such a stunt is possible. It's not like partners are advertising their affairs, but it is suspicious that the alleged cheaters somehow have mics on in the midst of their big reveals. Some believe the storylines are fictitious, while others suggest that the partner misbehaving is lied to in order to get on camera.
Whatever the case might be, the show focuses on a theme we know well, especially thanks to Tom and Raquel after their infamous Vanderpump Rules fiasco. Now that the scandal heard 'round the world has quieted down, perhaps viewers are in search of more romantic unrest and will catapult Caught in the Act alongside its peers.
And to anyone caught in a romantic snafu, cheating or otherwise, host Tami Roman sounds off about working through challenges. You have to be your own cheerleader.
“You shouldn’t love anybody more than you love yourself, because when it’s all said and done, it’s only going to be you,” she told Access Hollywood.
