Is Boston’s Jayson Tatum overlooked in MVP discussions?

The Boston Celtics may have a roster full of All-Star-level talent, yet Jayson Tatum remains their clear-cut best player. The 25-year-old forward has drastically improved his playmaking, while his post-game and interior scoring have shown legitimate signs of growth. However, despite being the best player on the team with the best record in the NBA, Tatum isn’t considered to be a legitimate MVP contender this season.

On the latest Green With Envy podcast episode, hosts Adam Taylor, Greg Meneikis and Will Weir discuss why Tatum’s sacrifices and improvements should certainly see him in contention for the coveted individual award. Tatum is still Boston’s most valuable player. However, his production needs to be contextualized with the sacrifices he’s making to allow the surrounding talent to thrive.

Tatum currently sits sixth in Tim Bontemps’ latest straw poll and is unlikely to get anywhere near the top three in MVP voting this season.
