Great British Bake Off bosses have confirmed that the new series of the Channel 4 show will air on Channel 4 on Tuesday night, hoping its return 'will bring about a few smiles.'
The long-running programme is the most watched show on the channel every single year and judges Pru Leith and Paul Hollywood have gone back into the famous tent again, alongside presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding.
Last year's Bake Off was won by Giuseppe Dell'Anno, who saw off stiff competition from fellow finalists Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira to be 2021 Star Baker.
Every time a new series of Great British Bake Off is announced, excitement from devoted fans of the show immediately hits fever pitch and ever since the line-up of contestants for this year was announced last month, they've been counting down to the start date.
On Tuesday morning a tweet from Bake Off's official account said that the first episode of the new series would be on at 8pm, with the judges and hosts pictured in a Star Wars inspired shoot for the spoof film 'Return of the Breadi.'
A short time after, another tweet has posted reading: "These are challenging times we live in, but we dearly hope the return of Bake Off will bring about a few smiles every Tuesday evening. Perhaps the odd tear too. And maybe a soggy bottom."
However, Tuesday evening is also when The Queen's coffin will arrive back in England, having been in Edinburgh since Sunday in preparation for service of thanksgiving at ST Giles' Cathedral on Monday afternoon. Her Majesty's body will journey back towards London by plane, with the flight due to land at RAF Northolt at 6.55pm.
That is just before Channel 4 News usually starts and from Northolt, the coffin will travel the 15 mile journey to Buckingham Palace by hearse. If Channel 4 decide to heavily feature The Queen's final journey home in its entirety this could impact what time Bake Off will start.
