Is Asda open today on Bank Holiday Monday? Supermarket opening times for day of Queen's funeral

Asda will be opening its supermarkets back up to the public after the Queen’s funeral.

The state funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s will present an opportunity for people across the country to pay their respects to the monarch. Her funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey, in London, at 11am on Monday, September 19.

The emotional occasion will be screened on major television channels with a bank holiday being confirmed. This gives those wishing to pay their respects an opportunity to mourn Queen Elizabeth II.

Some shops, attractions and businesses have taken the decision to close for the day while others will shut temporarily. Asda falls into the latter category with the supermarket chain set to reopen their stores at 5pm on Monday, September 19.

An Asda spokesperson said: “As a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, all Asda stores will be closed on Monday 19th September until 5pm to allow our customers and colleagues to recognise the passing of our late Monarch and commemorate her steadfast service to our nation.”

The move has divided shoppers, with some believing the respectful choice would be to close all day. Although others have praised the company for offering customers a chance to get their shopping on Monday.

Additionally, Asda has also advised that online deliveries services will be halted all day on Monday. Staff will be paid as normal if they are usually scheduled to work that day and the workers that come in for the later shift will be given double pay.
