An Irvine primary school has earned a glowing report for its “outstanding leadership” from Education Scotland.
Back in February. a team of inspectors from visited Glebe Primary School and talked to parents/carers and children.
The inspection team highlighted the “outstanding leadership” of head teacher Elaine Sanderson in driving forward improvement.
The report said: “She has developed successfully an aspirational learning community. She empowers children and staff to lead and make genuine and valuable contributions to the life of the school and beyond."
It spoke of “articulate children” who were motivated, resilient and "keen to do their very best”.
Pupils were also “confident, responsible and respectful, showing kindness, care and understanding towards each other".
Some of the other key findings in the report were:
- The school’s range of supports is improving attainment and achievement for all children including those who face barriers or challenges in their learning
- Children feel safe, cared for, listened to and respected by their school community
- The head teacher and depute head teacher value all children, staff and partners. They remind them regularly that they all have an important role to play in the life and work of the school and wider community.
- Overall, attainment in literacy and numeracy is very good and senior leaders and staff have developed strong partnerships with parents.
Staff were said to be “highly responsive" to the needs and changing circumstances of children and their families.
They promised to continue to take forward priorities for improvement, including promoting creativity and innovation in learning, as planned.
Education Scotland also gathered evidence to help evaluate the school’s work using four quality indicators and these were as follows:
- Leadership of change: very good.
- Learning, teaching and assessment: very good.
- Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion: excellent.
- Raising attainment and achievement: very good.
Head teacher Ms Sanderson said: “This is a fantastic report and we are all delighted to have received such positive feedback from Education Scotland.
“We are very much a team and I have to say a huge thanks to all the teachers and support staff for the work they do every day.
"They are an amazing group of staff who care deeply about the young people and giving them the best experience possible.
“The pupils are an absolute credit to the school, themselves and their families and it is a privilege to be their head teacher.
“We won’t rest on our laurels. Like all inspections, they pick up things we can do better and we will strive to get even better over the coming weeks and months.”
Councillor Shaun Macaulay, North Ayrshire's cabinet member for education, said: “This is an absolutely outstanding report and the head teacher and all the staff deserve an enormous amount of credit. They are doing a brilliant job.
“A huge well done to all the young people who are making the most of the learning environment and thriving.
"It’s great to see and I’m sure Glebe Primary will continue to go from strength to strength.”
