Irvine Meadow in no mood to do Glenafton favours as boss expects hot Loch Park reception

Irvine Meadow co-boss Colin Spence insists he's in no mood to do relegation-battling Glenafton any favours tonight.

Spence takes his team to Loch Park knowing they are already safe from the West of Scotland League Premier Division trapdoor while Glens are desperate for three points as they look to pull off a late, great escape.

The clash marks Meadow's last game of the season but Spence won't accept his players drifting into holiday mode just yet.

His hopes of a top-five finish were dashed in a 3-1 home defeat against Darvel on Saturday.

But a win tonight would lift Meadow above Cumnock and all but guarantee a seventh-placed finish - and that, says Spence, is the aim.

He added: "I'm not one for making up the numbers.

"There is still an opportunity for us to climb another place in the table and finishing as high as we can has been the challenge to the players all season.

"We don't want to do Glenafton any favours that's for sure but we know they will be desperate for three points.

"A win could help them put one foot in the Premier Division for next season and their fans will get behind them so we know we're in for a very tough game."

Meadow skipper Mark McLennan and utility man Ryan McKie are unavailable for tonight's game while veteran defender Willie Lyle is an injury doubt.

Meadow, who finished the Darvel game with three teenagers on the park, will likely turn to their Development squad again to flesh out their squad.

Glenafton will be in confident mood having come from behind to beat Beith 3-2 at the weekend.

Spence is also expecting a partisan crowd to make his side's task even more difficult.

There's no love lost between him, co-boss James Latta and the Glenafton faithful, owing to the pair's connection with bitter East Ayrshire rivals Auchinleck Talbot.

And he's expecting the usual hot reception this evening.

He added: "We get plenty of pelters when we go there. I think we got more stick there than anywhere as players. I'll be looking out the ear plugs!"
